VAT Risk & Assurance Manager – Tax Advisory & Planning

About the role

The Manager – VAT Risk & Assurance will support the Senior Manager in reviewing, validating and embedding VAT risk controls across Amazon's business operations. This position blends VAT advisory expertise with operational assurance to strengthen controls, improve compliance and enable data‑driven decision‑making. The role can be based in Luxembourg, London or Manchester.

Key responsibilities

• Review and validate operational assurance activities to ensure alignment with VAT requirements, regulatory expectations and internal standards.
• Evaluate testing methodologies, evidence collection and sampling approaches, identifying gaps or inconsistencies.
• Analyse operational processes and transactional data to pinpoint VAT compliance risks and provide actionable mitigation recommendations.
• Partner with VAT advisory teams to translate technical guidance into practical operational applications.
• Drive continuous improvement of VAT processes, assurance practices and risk controls across multiple jurisdictions.
• Provide evidence‑based insights and recommendations to the Senior Manager for strategic oversight.
• Challenge operational readiness by reviewing SOPs, controls and outputs against VAT policy and governance expectations.
• Identify and escalate systemic or high‑risk issues to senior leadership.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of VAT in the EU and UK.
• Experience in tax advisory (excluding compliance) with excellent English communication skills.
• Extensive VAT advisory or assurance experience, preferably from a Big‑4 or large regulated corporate environment.
• Proven ability to provide practical, business‑focused advice on VAT legislation.
• Exposure to assurance, control frameworks or operational risk management.
• Experience operating in multi‑jurisdictional, large‑scale organisations.
