Senior Accountant – Contract (Luxembourg)

About the role

This is a hands‑on, twelve‑month contract for an experienced Senior Accountant to support a payments business undergoing operational improvement. The role can be based in Luxembourg or performed remotely from anywhere in Europe, with occasional travel required.

Key responsibilities

• Take independent ownership of assigned entities or balance‑sheet areas and drive month‑end close activities.
• Resolve unreconciled and historically messy balances, ensuring accurate accruals, cut‑offs and inter‑company reconciliations.
• Support statutory audits and defend numbers directly with external auditors.
• Lead SAP remediation – correct posting and mapping issues, rebuild audit trails and establish SAP as a reliable source of truth.
• Strengthen internal controls, document processes and reduce reliance on single points of knowledge.

Required profile

• Minimum seven years of financial accounting experience with full ownership of month‑end close workstreams.
• Proven ability to manage accruals, cut‑offs, reconciliations and inter‑company accounting.
• Experience presenting and defending financial results to external auditors.
• Recognised accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CPA) is advantageous.
• Background in fintech, payments or other regulated industries and multi‑entity, multi‑currency exposure is a plus.
