Science Manager – Biophysical Modeling

About the role

Hydrosat is seeking a Science Manager to lead its Biophysical Modeling team in Luxembourg. The role combines remote‑sensing expertise with leadership to develop and operationalise models of crop water stress, evapotranspiration and plant‑water interactions using thermal infrared and multispectral satellite data.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a multidisciplinary team of scientists developing land‑surface and crop‑water models.
• Drive innovation in surface‑energy‑balance modelling, vegetation‑stress indices and data‑fusion methods.
• Design, implement and validate algorithms for thermal data analysis and stress monitoring.
• Collaborate with machine‑learning, engineering and product groups to embed scientific models into production pipelines.
• Review and approve scientific methodologies, architecture and design decisions.
• Set team objectives, monitor key results and mentor team members.
• Contribute to research proposals, publications and conference presentations.
• Support recruitment and onboarding of new scientific talent.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in environmental science, agronomy, physics or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in Earth Observation, remote sensing or environmental modelling.
• 2+ years in a technical leadership role managing scientific or engineering teams.
• Hands‑on experience with geospatial/Earth‑observation data processing (e.g., GDAL, Rasterio).
• Strong understanding of land‑surface processes, soil‑plant‑atmosphere interactions and vegetation indices.
• Proficient in Python or similar programming languages.
• Demonstrated ability to work closely with software and data‑engineering teams.
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
