Lawyer – Institutional & EU Law (Luxembourg)

About the role

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is seeking a qualified lawyer to join its Legal Corporate Department in Luxembourg. The role focuses on institutional and European Union law, representing the Bank in litigation before the Court of Justice of the EU and providing specialised legal advice on a range of internal policies and staff matters.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the EIB as an agent in litigation before the Court of Justice of the European Union.
• Prepare legal notes, opinions and research studies on complex EU law issues.
• Advise on the EIB’s Transparency Policy, Anti‑Fraud Policy, Complaints Mechanism and maladministration matters.
• Participate in internal and external working groups, panels and task forces.
• Liaise with external counsel, supervise their work and maintain contacts with internal counterparts.

Required profile

• University degree in law (minimum Bachelor, preferably Master’s level).
• At least 5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably within EU institutions, international law firms or similar bodies.
• Strong knowledge of EU law; bar qualification and a Master’s in EU law are assets.
• Experience in EU litigation is a distinct advantage.

Required skills

• Very good knowledge of standard computer tools and familiarity with legal databases.
