Deputy Head of AFC & Compliance Luxembourg (Director)

About the role

DWS is looking for a Deputy Head of Anti-Financial Crime (AFC) and Compliance Luxembourg, a director-level position supporting the Head of AFC & Compliance Luxembourg. The role provides independent second-line oversight and advisory services across DWS's Luxembourg platform, including one of the largest management companies in Luxembourg, and ensures AFC and compliance risks are identified, assessed, governed, reported and remediated in line with Luxembourg, European and DWS requirements. It is fully integrated into the global DWS AFC & Compliance organisation and acts as a senior local contact for regulators, senior management, boards and governance bodies.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Head of AFC & Compliance in leading the local function and act as deputy and senior representative in governance forums, management committees and board-level interactions
• Take on regulated AML appointments (Fund MLRO) and oversee delegated AML activities
• Advise senior management and business units on regulatory and compliance matters, including conflicts of interest, market conduct, cross-border business, outsourcing, data handling and conduct risk
• Lead and coordinate compliance and AFC risk assessments, second-line monitoring and testing, and report findings and remediation plans to governance bodies
• Oversee implementation of DWS AFC requirements (AML, counter-terrorist financing, sanctions, anti-bribery and corruption, fraud prevention, whistleblowing)
• Act as senior contact for Luxembourg regulators, support regulatory inspections and prepare governance reporting
• Lead, coach and train the Luxembourg AFC & Compliance team and promote a strong compliance culture

Required profile

• University degree in Law, Economics, Business Administration, Finance or a related discipline; professional qualifications an advantage
• Significant professional experience, typically 10+ years, in Compliance, Anti-Financial Crime, Legal, Risk or other control functions in financial services
• Strong knowledge of Luxembourg and European financial services regulation for asset managers, management companies and investment funds
• Experience interacting with regulators, auditors, senior management, boards and governance committees
• Fluent English; German, French or Luxembourgish an advantage

• Sound understanding of Asset Management, Distribution, Alternatives, Technology & Operations and supporting control frameworks
• Ability to lead, influence and challenge senior stakeholders while maintaining constructive partnerships
• Analytical, problem-solving, stakeholder management, communication and presentation skills
• Proven ability to use AI tools to improve productivity and workflows responsibly
