Researcher in Process Mining & Optimisation

About the role

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is seeking a highly motivated researcher to join a project in collaboration with Post Luxembourg. The role focuses on developing advanced logistics applications that integrate optimisation, artificial intelligence, and digital‑twin technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Develop algorithms for automated process discovery from event logs in logistics systems.
• Combine data‑science and process‑mining techniques to model and analyse logistics processes.
• Design and implement performance‑analysis methods, including bottleneck detection and compliance deviation analysis.
• Propose and evaluate “what‑if” scenarios to support strategic logistics planning.
• Build an optimisation environment tailored to logistics process improvement.
• Validate analytical models and algorithms in a sandbox environment.
• Investigate machine‑learning and advanced‑analytics approaches for business‑process forecasting.
• Design predictive‑analytics strategies to anticipate trends, deviations, and outcomes.
• Disseminate results through reports, scientific publications, and industry presentations.
• Own assigned work‑packages, coordinate with stakeholders, and provide regular progress updates.

Required profile

• PhD degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Applied Mathematics or a closely related field.
• Strong expertise in optimisation, data science, and machine learning.
• Experience with business‑process modelling and predictive analytics is desirable.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with industrial partners.
