Lead Mechanical and Thermal Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Lead Mechanical and Thermal Engineer to drive the design, analysis, and integration of mechanical and thermal solutions for next‑generation laser communication systems. Based in Luxembourg, you will lead a multidisciplinary team delivering hardware for both space and ground terminals.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, procurement, assembly, and testing of mechanical components, mechanisms, and ground support equipment.
• Define mechanical and thermal requirements aligned with system specifications and performance goals.
• Manage the Mechanical & Thermal Engineering function, including task allocation, technical reviews, and quality assurance.
• Perform structural, mechanical, and thermal analyses to verify and optimise hardware designs.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure designs meet technical, performance, and programme requirements.
• Support integration, testing, verification, and validation throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation such as design documents, ICDs, analysis reports, and specifications.
• Guide supplier selection, procurement, and oversight of externally manufactured components.
• Identify and implement improvements to design methodologies, workflows, and engineering standards.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 10+ years of professional experience in mechanical and thermal engineering.
• Proven experience with mechanical and thermal finite element analysis (FEA).
