Health Sector Specialist – Luxembourg

About the role

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is looking for a Health Sector Specialist to join its Life Sciences and Health Division in Luxembourg. The role is based at the EIB headquarters and requires regular onsite presence. You will work at the intersection of policy, finance and health, evaluating and guiding investment projects that support innovation, sustainability and societal resilience across Europe.

Key responsibilities

• Assess the technical and economic viability of health‑sector projects, including pharmaceuticals, diagnostics and medical devices.
• Evaluate procurement standards and the environmental, climate and social sustainability of proposed investments.
• Provide independent advice on sector policy and the quality of projects to EIB decision‑makers.
• Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams to design, prepare and monitor project implementation.
• Support the Bank’s strategy on innovation, digitalisation and human capital within the health sector.

Required profile

• Relevant academic background (e.g., economics, engineering, life sciences) – internal benchmark: Sector Economist/Engineer.
• Demonstrated experience with health‑sector projects, preferably within the EU context.
• Strong analytical mindset and ability to work across policy, finance and technical domains.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
