Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

Remote is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join its global engineering team. You will help build the core HR platform that enables companies to hire, pay, and manage international employees.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services, APIs, and integrations for Remote’s products.
• Work with Elixir, Phoenix, and PostgreSQL to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable systems.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (frontend, SRE, QA) to define domain boundaries and ownership.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines on GitLab and manage deployments on AWS, releasing multiple times per day.
• Contribute to automation and AI‑driven workflows that improve product functionality.

Required profile

• Strong engineering fundamentals with a proven track record of shipping production‑grade software.
• Experience designing or adopting automation/agentic workflows.
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote, asynchronous environment.
• Motivation to tackle complex, meaningful challenges that impact global businesses.
