Ground Segment Software Engineer (Luxembourg)

About the role

ALTEN is seeking a Ground Segment Software Engineer to join its Luxembourg team. You will design, develop, and maintain mission‑critical software that supports spacecraft monitoring and commanding, directly contributing to space mission operations.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain the Mission Control System (MCS) with a focus on reliability and performance.
• Develop new Ground Segment modules using Java and Python.
• Support subsystems such as CFDP‑based file management, automated ingestion and archiving of image/binary data, and telemetry processing workflows.
• Collaborate with system engineers to ensure requirements traceability and robust software design.
• Debug and optimise critical services to guarantee operational readiness.
• Write and maintain technical documentation, configuration files and operational procedures.
• Participate in technical reviews, design discussions and mission readiness activities.

Required profile

• Experience in the aerospace industry.
• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Strong analytical mindset and ability to work in complex technical environments.
• Team‑oriented with good communication skills.
• Fluent English; French at B2 level is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Java.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Familiarity with Linux environments and standard development toolchains.
• Experience with SQL databases or operational data layers (preferred).
• Knowledge of CFDP (CCSDS File Delivery Protocol) and PUS (Packet Utilisation Standard) is a strong advantage.
