Telecom R&D Engineer – NTN

About the role

OQ Technology is seeking a Telecom R&D Engineer to drive the development of 3GPP‑based protocol stacks for Non‑Terrestrial Networks (NTN). You will work on adapting NB‑IoT, LTE and 5G NR technologies for satellite communications, turning research concepts into deployable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and optimise L1/L2/L3 protocol stack components for NTN supporting NB‑IoT, LTE and 5G NR.
• Participate in the full R&D lifecycle: system design, integration, testing and performance tuning.
• Analyse and troubleshoot protocol behaviour across PHY, MAC, RLC, PDCP, RRC and NAS layers.
• Implement satellite‑specific adaptations such as propagation delay, Doppler shift and timing synchronisation.
• Develop and execute unit, integration and performance test plans.
• Support software integration workflows, including CI/CD and version control.
• Stay current with 3GPP releases (17‑19) and translate standards into practical implementations.
• Collaborate with RF, FPGA, satellite and platform engineering teams.

Required profile

• Degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
• 5+ years of telecom R&D experience, preferably with 3GPP wireless systems.
• Strong understanding of 3GPP protocol architecture for NB‑IoT, LTE or 5G NR.
• Proven analytical and troubleshooting abilities.

Required skills

• C / C++ programming.
• Python scripting for automation and analysis.
• Linux/Unix development environment.
• Version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD practices.
• Knowledge of 3GPP standards, NB‑IoT, LTE, 5G NR.
