Senior Backend Engineer (Remote)

About the role

Remote is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join a cross‑functional team building the core HR platform that enables companies to hire, pay, and manage international employees. You will work remotely with engineers across Frontend, Backend, SRE, and QA, contributing to high‑impact products used by global teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services, APIs, and integrations for Remote’s HR platform.
• Collaborate with product and frontend teams to define domain boundaries and ensure reliable data flows.
• Write production‑grade code in Elixir and Phoenix, leveraging PostgreSQL for data storage.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, deploying to AWS multiple times per day.
• Participate in code reviews, observability, and performance tuning to keep systems secure, reliable, and scalable.

Required profile

• Strong engineering fundamentals with a proven track record of shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Experience designing or adopting automation or agentic workflows.
• Self‑motivated, curious, and comfortable working asynchronously in a fully remote environment.
