Proof-readers / Language editors – EU languages

About the role

The European Parliament's Directorate‑General for Translation is recruiting proof‑readers and language editors for a range of EU languages. The positions are based in Luxembourg and involve supporting the translation workflow for legislative and non‑legislative texts.

Key responsibilities

• Proofread texts for spelling, grammar, syntax, punctuation, typography, formatting and technical compliance.
• Check linguistic and terminological consistency and adherence to stylistic conventions.
• Pre‑ and post‑process documents using translation tools and office applications.
• Search for and incorporate standard texts, reference documents, treaty extracts and other official material.
• Prepare draft translations of short, non‑legislative texts.
• Assist translators and terminologists with terminology research, database updates and CAT‑tool preparation.
• Conduct technical and linguistic quality checks.
• Perform additional language‑related tasks such as transcription, file‑format checks, content moderation for websites and social media.
• Support training, onboarding of new colleagues and development of IT tools.

Required profile

• Citizen of an EU Member State.
• Completed any national military service obligations.
• Relevant character references confirming suitability.
• Post‑secondary diploma (or secondary diploma granting access to higher education) and at least three years of professional experience in proofreading, editing or translation.

Required skills

• Proficiency with computer‑assisted translation (CAT) tools.
• Advanced use of word‑processing software.
• Experience with terminology databases.
