Design/Technical Director – EMEA Data Centres

About the role

CloudHQ is seeking a Design/Technical Director to lead the architectural, civil, structural, mechanical and electrical design of hyperscale data centre projects across EMEA. You will own the technical design vision, ensure consistency with the company’s Basis of Design and collaborate with cross‑functional teams from site selection through construction.

Key responsibilities

• Define, evolve and govern CloudHQ’s global Basis of Design, engineering guidelines and standard specifications.
• Lead multidisciplinary design teams (MEP, structural, civil, architectural, fire/life safety) through RIBA stages 1‑4.
• Review and approve all design packages for compliance with standards, local codes, sustainability and hyperscale customer requirements.
• Direct external design consultants, challenge decisions to optimise cost, constructability and performance.
• Partner with Development, Construction, Operations and Commercial teams to identify risks, validate constructability and embed maintainability, resilience and scalability.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in data centre or large‑scale infrastructure design.
• Strong understanding of international building codes, sustainability standards and hyperscale customer specifications.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills across engineering, construction and commercial functions.
• Willingness to travel regularly across EMEA sites.
