Associate Vice President, Valuations
aresmgmt · Luxembourg
Job description
About the role
Ares Management Luxembourg, a regulated AIFM, is looking for a highly motivated and experienced person to join its Valuation team at Assistant Vice President level, depending on experience and qualifications. The role works closely with the Conducting Officer responsible for valuation, with autonomy and responsibility for key parts of the Luxembourg valuation process. It suits someone who combines strong valuation expertise with good judgement and the ability to work across many stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Improve valuation processes, controls, analytics and reporting, using data and technology to make them more efficient, consistent and scalable.
- Review and independently challenge valuation models, methods, assumptions and documentation, especially for complex and illiquid investments, and form independent views on material valuation issues.
- Prepare valuation materials and analysis for valuation committees, the Executive Committee, the Board of Managers and other governance forums.
- Take part in the Luxembourg valuation framework and periodic valuations across funds and structures, covering several alternative asset classes, in line with Ares policies, fund documentation and regulations.
- Work with Portfolio Management, Finance, Risk, Legal, Compliance and Operations, and support new business, products and structures by checking valuation considerations early.
- Coordinate with external auditors, fund administrators and independent valuation firms, supporting or leading discussions on valuation matters.
Required profile
- 7+ years of valuation experience in alternative asset management, valuation advisory, audit or a related financial services field.
- Strong knowledge of valuation methods for alternative and illiquid assets, across Credit, Private Equity, Real Estate and/or Infrastructure.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards, including AIFMD valuation rules.
- Familiarity with CSSF expectations on less liquid and illiquid assets is highly desirable.
- BS/BA or equivalent in Accounting, Economics, Finance or a related field; CFA, CAIA, ACA/ACCA or equivalent is an advantage.
- Excellent written and spoken English, strong analytical and commercial judgement, and clear communication with investment professionals and governance bodies.
Interest in using LLMs (writing detailed prompts, reviewing output, refining prompts) is a plus. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis until the search closes.
