Technical Entrepreneur in Residence

About the role

R3 Robotics is seeking a Technical Entrepreneur in Residence to join its Innovation team. You will explore, validate, and develop new robotics‑focused product opportunities that push the limits of automation, sensing, and intelligent systems.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and evaluate new product concepts and market opportunities in robotics, automation, and smart manufacturing.
• Conduct exploratory research, feasibility studies, and user discovery to assess technical and commercial potential.
• Lead hands‑on prototyping of mechanical, electrical, and software systems, including algorithms and integrations.
• Collaborate with engineering, software, operations, and business teams to align solutions with company strategy.
• Develop technical roadmaps, architecture concepts, and go‑to‑market proposals for promising ideas.
• Present progress, insights, and recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders.
• Build relationships with universities, startups, and industry partners for co‑development and testing.
• Mentor internal teams and foster a culture of innovation and technical excellence.
• Potentially transition into leading a new product initiative or spin‑off.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics or a related field.
• 8+ years of hands‑on experience bringing hardware products from concept to prototype or production.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and system‑integration constraints.
• Proven expertise in mechanical design and mechatronics.
• Ability to translate ambiguous ideas into testable prototypes.
• Excellent communication, storytelling and presentation skills.
• Self‑directed, resourceful and business‑savvy mindset.
