Staff Product Engineer (Ruby on Rails)

About the role

SearchApi is looking for a senior Ruby on Rails engineer to become the technical backbone of its real‑time SERP API platform. This is a hands‑on, high‑trust position where you will own the most complex pull requests, raise the overall code quality, and eventually take the technical load off the CEO/CTO.

Key responsibilities

• Own and deliver the hardest PRs, including complex features, performance‑critical code, and tricky refactors.
• Review and mentor other engineers through code reviews, raising the bar for the entire codebase.
• Design and implement enterprise features such as SAML, SCIM, audit logs, and permission systems.
• Build and maintain billing and payment flows with Stripe, including subscription and usage‑based billing.
• Iterate on product features like the API playground, dashboard, and developer experience.
• Develop custom in‑house algorithms and optimize performance through memory/CPU profiling and query tuning.
• Shape technical direction, introduce better patterns, and contribute to CI/CD pipelines.

Required profile

• Senior Ruby on Rails engineer comfortable shipping production code across the whole product.
• Self‑motivated builder, not a manager, who thrives in a remote‑only, async‑first environment.
• Strong judgment, high bar for quality, and ability to evaluate AI‑generated output.
• Alignment with the “Rails Way” and DHH’s design philosophy.
