Senior Mechanical Designer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to lead the development of payload hardware that must survive launch, vacuum, and orbit. The role focuses on the Orbital High‑Throughput Screener (OHTS) and works closely with electrical, thermal and systems teams to turn ambitious space‑based drug‑discovery concepts into flight‑ready hardware.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and development of payload systems for space‑station applications, ensuring compliance with ISS‑specific guidelines and industry standards.
• Create detailed 3D models and technical drawings with appropriate tolerances and material specifications.
• Conduct static and dynamic structural simulations to validate integrity during launch, deployment and in‑orbit operations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate mechanical designs with electrical, thermal and systems subsystems.
• Support material selection, mechanical assembly processes, and supplier liaison.
• Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation, including assembly instructions, test procedures and engineering reports.
• Troubleshoot design issues throughout development, testing and integration phases.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of experience as a mechanical designer using CAD tools.
• Ability to interpret and apply engineering standards, especially those related to space‑station payloads.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Legal right to work in Luxembourg.

Required skills

• SolidWorks or CATIA for 3D modelling and drawing creation.
• Experience with structural simulation tools such as ANSYS or NASTRAN (advantageous).
• Knowledge of mechanical assembly processes and technical documentation.
