Head of In Situ Resource Utilisation Group

About the role

The European Space Resources Innovation Centre (ESRIC) is looking for a senior leader to head its In Situ Resource Utilisation (ISRU) Group. You will steer research, development and innovation projects that enable the discovery and use of space resources, with an initial focus on the Moon.

Key responsibilities

• Define the group’s strategic goals in line with ESRIC’s mission and develop short, mid and long‑term plans.
• Manage the group’s budget, allocate resources, and oversee a portfolio of ongoing and new RDI projects.
• Build and maintain collaborative relationships with project partners, stakeholders and funding agencies.
• Lead talent management, fostering the development of researchers, PhD candidates and post‑doctoral staff.
• Ensure compliance with LIST values, ethical standards, research integrity and health‑safety regulations.
• Represent ESRIC and LIST at national and international forums.

Required profile

• PhD in planetary science, geology or engineering.
• At least 10 years of post‑doctoral experience in research or a relevant industry.
• Proven track record in space‑resources R&D, publications and securing project funding.
• Experience with space‑agency funded projects is an advantage.
• Strong leadership, project‑management and budget‑realisation skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities in English.
