Python Developer – Remote (Contract)

About the role

We are looking for a Python Developer to join our remote team on a contract basis. You will work closely with a research group to test and improve next‑generation AI models that assist developers in real‑world coding tasks. No prior AI experience is required – your backend expertise is the key.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimise REST and GraphQL endpoints for scalable APIs.
• Implement data validation, error handling, and security best practices in backend services.
• Plan and execute database migrations, optimisations, and schema changes.
• Test new AI‑powered models in Cursor, providing feedback via incident reports, bug traces, and screenshots.
• Participate in 4‑day intensive testing bursts to evaluate AI impact on coding workflows.
• Collaborate with the research team through a dedicated Slack channel, discussing findings and proposing improvements.
• Complete post‑burst surveys delivering insights on model performance and developer experience.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional experience as a backend developer.
• Strong expertise in Python.
• Proven ability to thrive in fast‑paced, confidential, collaborative remote environments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for clear incident and bug reporting.
• Familiarity with AI coding tools; experience with Cursor is a plus.
• Visible contributions to open source are a plus.
• Enthusiasm for AI advancements in software development.
