Legal Counsel – Luxembourg (Securities & Fund Services)

About the role

HSBC is looking for a Legal Counsel to join its Luxembourg team. The role will support the bank’s Securities Services, Corporate Banking and Global Payment Solutions businesses, providing pragmatic and commercial legal advice across a range of EU and Luxembourg regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality internal legal advice to HSBC Continental Europe in Luxembourg, covering securities services, fund administration, corporate banking and payments.
• Identify, assess and manage legal risk, ensuring compliance with EU and Luxembourg law.
• Act as a trusted adviser to CIB stakeholders, delivering cost‑effective, commercially aware guidance.
• Maintain and develop relationships with panel law firms and external counsel, overseeing external legal spend.
• Promote knowledge sharing and best‑practice initiatives across the regional and global legal function.
• Coordinate the group’s legal risk approach in Luxembourg and support business initiatives.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of Luxembourg and EU law, gained in private practice or in‑house within an international financial institution.
• Experience in securities, fund services, corporate banking, payments or digital assets is highly desirable.
• Up‑to‑date understanding of banking law developments and relevant directives (AIFMD, UCITS, MiFID II, PSD, GDPR, etc.).
• Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
• Fluency in French and English.
