Artificial Intelligence Engineer

About the role

We are looking for an Artificial Intelligence Engineer to design, develop, and maintain autonomous AI agents that can reason, plan, and execute goal‑driven actions with minimal human supervision. The role involves building end‑to‑end pipelines that connect intelligent agents to internal knowledge bases, APIs, and enterprise systems while ensuring safety, governance, and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement autonomous AI agents capable of multi‑step reasoning, tool use, and structured decision‑making.
• Develop prompt‑engineering strategies, including chain‑of‑thought, role‑based prompting, and instruction design.
• Build and maintain memory architectures for short‑term and long‑term context awareness.
• Create retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) pipelines and optimise vector‑search using embedding models and vector databases.
• Integrate agents with internal APIs, data sources, and enterprise systems, handling heterogeneous data (structured, unstructured, web).
• Design multi‑agent orchestration patterns and routing logic for complex task execution.
• Leverage managed services such as AWS Bedrock AgentCore and Microsoft Foundry Agent Service, evaluating and recommending platform capabilities.
• Implement safety guardrails, human‑in‑the‑loop approvals, and observability pipelines for monitoring agent decisions.
• Ensure compliance with GDPR, data residency, and institutional data‑protection policies.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing autonomous AI agents and prompt‑engineering solutions.
• Strong knowledge of retrieval‑augmented generation, vector search, and embedding models.
• Familiarity with managed AI platforms (AWS Bedrock, Microsoft Foundry) and custom integration techniques.
• Understanding of AI safety, governance, and data‑protection regulations such as GDPR.
• Ability to work with research units and corporate services to translate domain requirements into technical specifications.
