Applied Scientist – AI for Engineering

About the role

Mistral AI is seeking an Applied Scientist with deep expertise in physics or engineering to drive AI‑accelerated simulation solutions for industrial customers. You will bridge cutting‑edge AI research with real‑world engineering challenges across domains such as computational fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, semiconductor design, and digital twins.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute large‑scale simulation campaigns using domain‑specific solvers (e.g., OpenFOAM, ANSYS, COMSOL, Abaqus).
• Train and evaluate AI models on high‑fidelity physics data, ensuring coverage, accuracy, and compliance with industry validation standards.
• Develop tools and frameworks for automated dataset creation, simulation pipeline management, and model evaluation.
• Collaborate closely with research, product, and customer‑facing teams to align models with engineering requirements.
• Manage research projects and maintain communication with client engineering teams.

Required profile

• Fluent English with strong communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences.
• PhD in physics or engineering.
• 5+ years of industry experience in automotive, aerospace, or semiconductor sectors.
• Interest in machine learning and ability to work autonomously.

Required skills

• Proficiency with simulation solvers such as OpenFOAM, ANSYS, COMSOL, and Abaqus.
• Experience in AI/ML model training and evaluation on physics data.
• Ability to build automated dataset pipelines and manage simulation workflows.
