Senior Spacecraft Operations Engineer

About the role

ClearSpace is looking for a Senior Spacecraft Operations Engineer to lead the end‑to‑end design, development and execution of mission operations for its low‑Earth‑orbit services. The role will define ground and operations architecture, author flight procedures and build a high‑performing mission operations capability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mission operations design aligned with spacecraft development schedules, provide expertise at design reviews and establish rigorous standards and configuration management.
• Author operations concepts, spacecraft user manuals and flight rules; develop and maintain automated and manual flight procedures for nominal and contingency scenarios.
• Design and maintain software tools, automation scripts and databases for mission planning, telemetry analysis and command generation; plan and execute verification & validation, simulations and rehearsals.
• Perform real‑time spacecraft commanding as a flight controller, schedule orbital passes and ground‑station assignments, analyse health trends and lead anomaly investigations.
• Provide on‑orbit leadership as Flight Director, guiding junior engineers and ensuring mission success.

Required profile

• University degree in an engineering discipline.
• Significant experience in the satellite industry covering the full life‑cycle of a Low Earth Orbit mission.
• Deep knowledge of satellite subsystems, especially AOCS/GNC or OBDH, and operation of ground systems.
• Proven ability to work calmly under high‑stress situations, perform root‑cause analysis and deliver timely solutions.

Required skills

• Satellite subsystems expertise (AOCS, GNC, OBDH).
• Procedure development, mission planning and on‑board software management.
• Configuration management and simulator facilities.
• Familiarity with ECSS, CCSDS and PUS standards.
• Experience with satellite assembly, integration & testing, formation‑flying or close‑proximity operations.
• Software coding and knowledge of flight dynamics and orbital mechanics.
