AI & Software Engineering R&D Specialist – Biomedical Imaging

About the role

The AI in Biomedical Imaging group at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine seeks a motivated R&D Specialist to turn cutting‑edge deep‑learning research into robust, user‑friendly software tools for biomedical image analysis. You will work at the interface of AI research and clinical application, focusing on neurodegenerative disease imaging.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain analysis pipelines that embed state‑of‑the‑art deep‑learning models for image segmentation, detection, classification and predictive modelling.
• Implement and optimise large‑scale GPU‑enabled workflows on high‑performance computing clusters.
• Prototype new computer‑vision approaches using emerging frameworks and medical imaging standards.
• Create intuitive front‑end interfaces, web dashboards or demonstrators to make AI tools accessible to researchers and clinicians.
• Participate in code reviews, repository management and enforce software engineering best practices.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Science or a related field.
• Experience in software development, applied machine learning or data‑pipeline engineering.
• Strong ability to translate research algorithms into production‑ready software.

Required skills

• Python programming
• Deep‑learning frameworks: PyTorch and MONAI
• Computer vision, pattern recognition and image analysis
• GPU‑enabled High‑Performance Computing (HPC) environments
• Front‑end development for web dashboards or user interfaces
