Senior Product Development Engineer (Robotics)

About the role

R3 Robotics is building an AI‑powered dismantling platform for end‑of‑life electric vehicles. The Senior Product Development Engineer will lead the mechanical R&D of next‑generation disassembly hardware, turning research insights into manufacturable machines.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the full R&D cycle for mechanical sub‑systems, from concept exploration to production hand‑over.
• Own CAD design of Machine Handling Systems and robotic end‑effectors; conduct concept and design reviews.
• Define and execute prototype test protocols, analyse failures and iterate designs.
• Collaborate with Automation and Software teams on hardware‑software interfaces for vision‑guided and force‑controlled robot operations.
• Produce technical documentation, design rationale, make‑or‑buy analyses and IP‑related records.
• Contribute to RFQs, RFPs and supplier selection, providing engineering rigor.
• Support the transition of validated designs into production‑ready machines with internal and external partners.
• Identify and implement design innovations to improve throughput, safety, material yield and maintainability.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of machine design experience with a strong R&D or product development focus.
• At least 3 years of hands‑on work with mechanical systems for robotics or automation.
• Proven ability to lead projects from concept through to manufacturing.
