(Senior) Lunar Scientist

About the role

ispace EUROPE is seeking a (Senior) Lunar Scientist to shape the scientific objectives of its lunar rover and lander missions. Based in Luxembourg, you will work within the Europe Mission Design & Operations Team to define targets, plan traverses, and support surface activities.

Key responsibilities

• Support science target selection, surface activity planning, and rover traverse design.
• Develop lunar geological and operational maps by integrating imagery, spectral, topographic, and illumination datasets.
• Assess terrain conditions, slopes, surface roughness, and hazards to ensure safe rover mobility.
• Maintain science traceability and align objectives with mission constraints.
• Participate in pre‑mission readiness, field testing, and simulation campaigns.
• Provide scientific input to daily mission operations and post‑mission data analysis.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Planetary Science, Geology, Geophysics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in planetary or lunar science, including data analysis or mission participation.
• Strong understanding of remote‑sensing data, terrain analysis, and lunar environmental constraints.
