Senior IT Engineer – High‑Performance Computing

About the role

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology is looking for a Senior IT Engineer to lead the design, operation and continuous improvement of its high‑performance computing and data infrastructure. The role supports research, data processing and organisational workloads across on‑premise and cloud environments.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and optimise compute clusters built on Kubernetes, Docker, Podman, VMware and Proxmox.
• Manage enterprise storage including SAN and DAS systems using InfiniBand and Fibre Channel, and maintain parallel file systems such as BeeGFS.
• Operate and maintain backup and disaster‑recovery solutions based on Commvault.
• Monitor compute, storage and backup platforms for performance, capacity and anomalies.
• Implement automation and configuration management with tools like Ansible.
• Perform system upgrades, patch management and lifecycle maintenance of cluster nodes and storage platforms.
• Support incident response, troubleshooting and security hardening, including access control and data protection.
• Collaborate with IT operations, researchers and developers to design and optimise hybrid infrastructures, integrating on‑premise resources with AWS and Microsoft Azure.
• Document architectures, procedures and operational guidelines, and propose improvements based on emerging technologies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field.
• 5–7 years of experience in system administration, HPC infrastructure or large‑scale computing environments.
