Research Engineer in Metallurgy

About the role

ArcelorMittal is seeking a Research Engineer with strong expertise in Metallurgy and Materials Science to drive innovative R&D projects for structural steel products. You will work on developing high‑strength steels, optimizing metallurgical routes, and ensuring integration into product standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead R&D projects focused on new high‑strength steels for long‑product applications.
• Optimize chemistry and process parameters across the metallurgical route.
• Conduct in‑depth investigations of application properties and support standardisation efforts.
• Collaborate with global R&D, plant teams, and sales/marketing departments.
• Manage industrial trials, production campaigns, and provide technical assistance to customers.
• Represent the company in standardisation committees and act as a subject‑matter expert for other metallurgy projects.
• Travel occasionally to Europe or North America for project support.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or PhD in Metallurgy or Materials Science.
• Solid background in physical metallurgy and a thorough understanding of secondary metallurgy, continuous casting, hot rolling, and heat treatment.
• Proven ability to analyse complex processes, integrate external knowledge and deliver practical solutions in an industrial setting.
• Independent project leadership skills with a track record of high‑quality results.
• Fluent in English and French, comfortable working both in office and on‑site.
