Principal Electrical Engineer – Data Center Development

About the role

CloudHQ is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the design, planning and execution of high‑efficiency electrical systems for developer‑led data centre projects across EMEA. The role provides technical authority for high‑voltage power, redundancy and energy‑optimisation solutions in hyperscale environments.

Key responsibilities

• Define and own electrical system architecture, including high‑voltage power, UPS, switchgear, transformers, busbars, distribution panels and emergency generators.
• Develop detailed electrical specifications that meet CloudHQ’s reliability, scalability and energy‑efficiency standards.
• Perform advanced load distribution, fault‑current and energy‑usage calculations to optimise designs.
• Guide pre‑development and development teams during master‑planning, feasibility studies and land‑acquisition phases.
• Review contractor and vendor proposals for compliance with project electrical requirements.
• Supervise installation, commissioning, system validation and load testing of critical power components.
• Support value‑engineering initiatives to deliver cost‑effective yet resilient solutions.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with extensive experience in high‑voltage electrical engineering for data centres.
• Proven track record of leading complex electrical projects from concept through commissioning.
• Strong ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and influence technical decisions.
• Willingness to travel regularly across CloudHQ sites in the UK, France, Germany, Italy or Luxembourg.
