Observability Engineer – Data Platform

About the role

We are looking for an Observability Engineer – Data Platform to design and implement reliable, scalable observability capabilities for our data pipelines and platform services. The role combines hands‑on engineering with the definition of standards that will be adopted across product and IT teams.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement observability standards for data pipelines, data products and platform services.
• Drive the adoption of OpenTelemetry for logs, metrics and traces.
• Work with existing tooling such as ELK/OpenSearch, Fluent Bit, Grafana and Prometheus.
• Create reusable instrumentation patterns, dashboards, alerting rules and runbooks.
• Improve detection, diagnosis and alerting for pipeline incidents, delays, failures and SLA breaches.
• Correlate telemetry with context (pipeline ID, dataset, owner, environment).
• Build actionable alerts and reduce noise from redundant notifications.
• Support incident response, root‑cause analysis and post‑incident improvements.
• Automate observability onboarding via CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code and reusable templates.
• Enable self‑service observability for engineering and product teams.
• Explore AI‑assisted use cases for anomaly detection and alert correlation.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in observability, SRE, platform engineering, DevOps or cloud engineering.
• Strong hands‑on experience with production systems and modern observability concepts (logs, metrics, traces, alerting, dashboards, incident response).
• Practical experience with OpenTelemetry or a strong motivation to lead its adoption.
• Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, ELK/OpenSearch, Fluent Bit or similar tools.
• Background in cloud environments, preferably AWS.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform.
• Ability to automate, standardise and document engineering practices.
• Good communication skills in English; French or German is a plus.
