Legal Counsel – Banking & Finance

About the role

DNB Luxembourg S.A., a fully owned subsidiary of Norway’s largest bank, is seeking a Legal Counsel to support its private banking and credit activities. Reporting to the Head of Risk & Regulatory, the role will provide legal, regulatory and governance advice across the Bank’s international operations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice to private banking and credit business lines, including investment advice, asset management, loan documentation, mortgage registration, collateral and debt collection.
• Oversee cross‑border legal matters, assess and implement regulatory requirements affecting the Bank’s international activities.
• Draft and review contracts, policies, internal memoranda and other governance documentation.
• Identify, assess and escalate legal and governance risks to senior management.
• Instruct and supervise external counsel.
• Deliver regular staff training on regulatory requirements in cooperation with Compliance.
• Collaborate with Group Legal and other international legal departments.
• Support the development, implementation and maintenance of the Bank’s governance framework, including committee documentation, action tracking and reporting.
• Assist with interactions with the CSSF, auditors and external advisers on legal, regulatory and governance matters.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in law.
• Proven experience in banking and finance, preferably with private banking or mortgage loan exposure.
• Strong understanding of governance and regulatory frameworks within the financial industry.
• Project‑management experience is a plus.
• Highly motivated, proactive, sociable with strong team‑building skills.
• Excellent communication and management abilities, able to translate legal and regulatory issues for business stakeholders.
• Fluent in English; knowledge of a Scandinavian language is an advantage.
• Structured, accurate and comfortable working in an international environment.
