Head of Virology and Serology (Permanent)

About the role

The Laboratoire national de santé (LNS) is seeking a Medical Doctor to lead its Virology and Serology service within the Microbiology department. This senior position is responsible for directing diagnostic activities, managing a multidisciplinary team, and ensuring the laboratory serves as a national reference centre for viral infections.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the Virology and Serology service, overseeing daily operations and staff development.
• Develop, validate, and implement molecular and serological diagnostic methods for acute respiratory infections, HIV, viral hepatitis, enteroviruses and polioviruses.
• Ensure compliance with national and international quality standards and act as the national reference laboratory for selected viral diseases.
• Collaborate with clinicians, public health authorities, and research partners on surveillance projects and translational research.
• Manage budgeting, resource planning, and reporting for the service.

Required profile

• Medical Doctor with board certification or equivalent experience in microbiology, virology or clinical laboratory medicine.
• Proven leadership experience in a diagnostic laboratory setting.
• Strong knowledge of molecular biology and serology techniques applied to viral diagnostics.
• Excellent communication skills in English; French or German is a plus.
