Head of Virology and Serology – Permanent Full‑Time

About the role

The Laboratoire national de santé (LNS) is seeking a qualified Medical Doctor to lead its Virology and Serology service within the Microbiology department. This permanent, full‑time position oversees diagnostic activities for viral infections, supports national reference functions, and contributes to research and surveillance projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Virology and Serology service, ensuring high‑quality diagnostic testing for acute respiratory infections, HIV, viral hepatitis, enteroviruses and polioviruses.
• Manage a multidisciplinary team of scientists and technicians, fostering professional development and operational excellence.
• Coordinate national reference laboratory activities and collaborate with clinicians, public health authorities, and research institutions.
• Oversee pathogen sequencing initiatives to monitor genetic variations and outbreak dynamics.
• Contribute to European and national research projects, supporting translational work in diagnostics and surveillance.

Required profile

• Medical Doctor degree with specialization in virology, microbiology or a related field.
• Extensive experience in clinical virology and serology, preferably in a public‑health laboratory setting.
• Proven leadership and management experience in a laboratory environment.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with clinicians, policymakers and research partners.
