About the role
The Director of the Department of Immune Mediated Diseases (DIMD) is a member of the executive management committee of the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH). The role combines strategic leadership of research activities, oversight of a large multidisciplinary team, and active contribution to translational and precision‑medicine initiatives.
Key responsibilities
- Define and implement the department’s research strategy in collaboration with group leaders, scientists and LIH management.
- Lead the daily management of the institute as part of the Executive Committee, supporting the CEO and Board of Directors.
- Oversee recruitment, career development and performance of senior researchers and group leaders.
- Ensure DIMD contributes to translational research, linking scientific discoveries to patient‑oriented treatments.
- Foster national and international collaborations and increase the department’s visibility.
- Manage the department’s budget and staff (approximately 100 people) and allocate technological resources.
- Drive fundraising activities, including preparation of grant applications such as the FNR PEARL programme.
- Develop internal and external communication in cooperation with the LIH communication team.
Required profile
- Outstanding track record in translational immunology with high‑impact scientific publications.
- At least 10 years of experience in immunology research or equivalent seniority.
- Extensive leadership experience managing large research teams.
- Proven ability to secure national and European research funding.
- Experience interacting with governmental bodies, universities, hospitals and industry partners.
- Active participation in international oncology networks and strong scientific visibility.
