Chief Operating Officer (COO) – Deputy Director

About the role

The Laboratoire National de Santé (LNS) is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) who will also serve as Deputy Director. Reporting to the CEO, the COO will act as the operational backbone of Luxembourg’s leading public health laboratory, translating strategic goals into concrete actions across six medical and scientific departments.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day operations of all six medical/scientific departments, ensuring quality, safety and accreditation standards are met.
• Partner with the CEO, the CFAO/Deputy Director and the Board to develop and implement operational strategies.
• Plan, monitor and control the institution’s budget, resources and performance indicators.
• Drive cross‑departmental collaboration and continuous improvement of production and service activities.
• Represent LNS in national public‑health programmes and external partnerships with universities and research institutes.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in a complex, multidisciplinary scientific or healthcare organization.
• Strong scientific background, preferably in laboratory medicine, genetics, pathology or related fields.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large teams (400+ staff) and multi‑site operations.
• Experience with accredited public‑sector institutions and public‑service obligations.
