Backend Software Engineer

About the role

Passbolt is looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join its Backend Team. You will work on the API that powers the self‑hosted Community and Enterprise Editions as well as the managed Cloud Edition, ensuring security, performance and scalability for millions of users.

Key responsibilities

• Develop new features in PHP and CakePHP for products used daily by over half a million users.
• Maintain, improve and fix bugs in the existing codebase.
• Transform functional specifications into reliable API workflows while preserving backward compatibility and security.
• Participate in code reviews to identify defects before release.
• Write unit tests with a target of 80% coverage and develop end‑to‑end tests for critical user journeys.
• Optimize code for performance and scalability across multiple platforms.
• Support the support team and product owners with feature requests and bug reports.

Required profile

• Proven experience with PHP and the CakePHP framework.
• Familiarity with REST API design and implementation.
• Understanding of security best practices and cryptographic mechanisms such as OpenPGP.
• Ability to write comprehensive unit and integration tests.
• Experience working with Git, Docker and Agile Scrum environments.
