Trainee – Market Assessment and Research

About the role

The European Investment Fund (EIF) is looking for a motivated Trainee to join its Corporate Strategy, Market Assessment & Research Division in Luxembourg. Over a five‑month period starting September 2026, you will support the design, execution and analysis of two major equity surveys targeting venture capital and private equity fund managers across Europe.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in questionnaire design and programming for the EIF Equity Survey & Barometer.
• Monitor survey responses, manage the online survey tool and ensure data quality.
• Analyse survey results and help draft the final working‑paper reports.
• Conduct desk research and retrieve information from commercial VC/PE databases and EIF sources.
• Support broader market‑assessment projects related to SME financing, including data collection, dataset creation and dashboard preparation.

Required profile

• University degree (preferably Master’s level) in Finance, Business Economics or a related field, or advanced postgraduate studies.
• Strong analytical mindset with familiarity in data interpretation and digital solution development.
• Excellent written and spoken English; additional EU language is a plus.
• Basic understanding of EIF’s mission, products and the European financial‑services landscape.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Teams and SharePoint.
