Senior Product Development Engineer

About the role

R3 Robotics is seeking a Senior Product Development Engineer to lead the design and development of next‑generation automated dismantling hardware for end‑of‑life electric vehicles. You will translate AI‑driven research insights into robust, manufacturable machine concepts, working closely with automation and software teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the full R&D cycle for mechanical sub‑systems, from concept and feasibility studies through functional prototypes to manufacturing hand‑over.
• Own CAD design of Machine Handling Systems and robotic end‑effectors; conduct concept and design reviews with internal and external stakeholders.
• Define and execute prototype test protocols, analyse results and iterate designs based on failure analysis.
• Collaborate with Automation and Software teams to develop hardware‑software interfaces optimized for vision‑guided and force‑controlled robot operations.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, design rationales, make‑or‑buy analyses, and R&D learnings to support IP development.
• Contribute to technical specifications for RFQs/RFPs, support supplier engagement and sourcing decisions.
• Assist the transition of validated designs into production‑ready machines in partnership with external suppliers.
• Identify design innovations that improve throughput, safety, material yield and maintainability.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience in machine design with a strong R&D or product development focus.
• 3+ years of hands‑on experience working directly with robotic systems.

Required skills

• Proficiency in CAD for mechanical design (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA).
• Expertise in machine design, rapid prototyping and systems integration.
• Experience developing hardware‑software interfaces for robotics.
• Knowledge of vision‑guided and force‑controlled robotic operations.
• Ability to produce detailed technical documentation and conduct make‑or‑buy analyses.
