Senior Engineer – 5G NTN Integration & Verification

About the role

The Senior Engineer will lead end‑to‑end verification of the 5G gNB software stack deployed on the on‑board processor of the meoSphere payload. You will work at the intersection of satellite payload engineering, 5G standards evolution, and flight‑critical software, ensuring that the solution meets the unique latency and Doppler challenges of medium‑earth‑orbit (MEO) networks. This position offers full technical ownership from laboratory validation through system‑level integration.

Key responsibilities

• Review the 5G gNB software stack and create a Delta Test Plan, adapting terrestrial 3GPP test cases to NTN constraints.
• Define, plan, and execute integration, verification, and interoperability test campaigns on OBP hardware.
• Commission and operate test benches, including UE emulators and channel simulators that emulate MEO propagation conditions.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis of L2/L3 protocol failures in lab and live‑network‑like environments.
• Validate radio resource management (RRM) and handover logic under MEO dynamics, analysing RRC and SDAP timing using protocol traces.
• Contribute to the development of 5G‑NTN verification methodologies, bridging standards intent with real payload behaviour.

Required profile

• Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Physics or a related discipline.
• Hands‑on expertise in 5G NR signalling and deep knowledge of L2/L3 protocols (RRC, SDAP, PDCP, MAC).
• Proven experience with 5G‑NTN technologies and understanding of latency, Doppler, and mobility challenges in satellite systems.
• Strong architectural understanding of SA/NSA deployments, Cloud RAN and vRAN concepts as they apply to non‑terrestrial networks.
