Doctoral Researcher in Sustainability Science

About the role

The Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences at the University of Luxembourg invites applications for a fully funded doctoral researcher position within the Sustainability Science and Transformation research group. The successful candidate will join the ECOJUST project, which investigates how citizen science and participatory research can support ecologically just, climate‑resilient development in urban environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design and conduct original research on the links between ecological health, human wellbeing and climate vulnerability.
• Develop and test methods for assessing and visualising ecological and human vulnerabilities.
• Collaborate with academic partners, municipal authorities, NGOs, citizens and policy makers.
• Produce scientific publications, conference presentations and policy briefs.
• Contribute to the design of nature‑based solutions that enhance climate resilience and social wellbeing.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in sustainability science, environmental studies, social sciences, geography or a related discipline.
• Strong interest in transdisciplinary, participatory research and climate adaptation.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills in English.
• Ability to work in an international, interdisciplinary team.
