Doctoral Researcher – History of Computing (PhD)

About the role

The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) at the University of Luxembourg is seeking a doctoral researcher to develop a PhD thesis on the History of Computing or Digital Cultures. This full‑time research position offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting‑edge scholarship in contemporary European history while engaging with interdisciplinary digital methods.

Key responsibilities

• Design and complete a PhD dissertation on topics such as computing history, digital cultures, or related interdisciplinary themes.
• Participate actively in C²DH research activities, seminars, workshops, and scientific events.
• Contribute to scholarly publications, conference papers, and public dissemination of research findings.
• Support teaching activities, including guest lectures, tutorials, and supervision of students in digital history and European history courses.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in History, Digital Humanities, Media Studies, Cultural Studies, Anthropology, or a related discipline.
• Strong grounding in historical research methods and historiography, or a demonstrated interest in historical approaches.
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary research environment.
• At least B2‑level proficiency in the language of the thesis, as required by the university’s doctoral admission rules.
