Director of Department of Immune Mediated Diseases

About the role

The Director leads the Department of Immune Mediated Diseases (DIMD) at the Luxembourg Institute of Health, shaping research strategy and ensuring scientific excellence. As a member of the executive management committee, the role combines high‑level leadership with hands‑on scientific guidance.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement the department’s research strategy in collaboration with group leaders and senior management.
• Participate in daily Institute management as part of the Executive Committee chaired by the CEO.
• Recruit, mentor, and develop senior researchers and group leaders.
• Drive translational, patient‑oriented research toward precision medicine.
• Foster national and international collaborations and increase the department’s visibility.
• Oversee staff (≈100) and budget, ensuring resources match research needs.
• Lead fundraising, grant applications, and internal/external communications.
• Maintain an active personal research program within the department’s priority areas.

Required profile

• Outstanding track record in translational immunology with strong publication record.
• Clinical expertise in immunology and innovative immunotherapeutic approaches.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in immunology research or equivalent seniority.
• Proven leadership experience managing large research teams.
