Director of Department of Immune Mediated Diseases

About the role

The Director of the Department of Immune Mediated Diseases (DIMD) joins the executive management committee of LIH and leads the overall research strategy and activities of the department. This senior position shapes translational immunology programmes and bridges scientific discoveries with patient‑focused precision medicine.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in the Institute’s Executive Committee, supporting the CEO in daily management and board‑delegated missions.
• Define and steer the department’s research strategy in collaboration with group leaders, scientists and senior management.
• Recruit, mentor and develop senior researchers and group leaders.
• Ensure DIMD contributes to translational research, linking laboratory findings to clinical treatments.
• Foster national and international collaborations and raise the department’s visibility.
• Oversee scientific project selection, evaluation and competitiveness at the international level.
• Manage staff (≈100 people) and the department’s budget, aligning resources with research needs.
• Lead fundraising efforts, grant applications and internal/external communication.
• Develop personal research within the department’s priority areas and support FNR PEARL funding applications.

Required profile

• Outstanding track record in translational immunology with strong publication record.
• Clinical expertise in immunology and innovative immunotherapeutic approaches.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in immunology research or equivalent seniority.
• Proven leadership experience managing large research teams and budgets.
