Backbone Engineer

About the role

Proximus Luxembourg is seeking a Backbone Engineer to join its Telecommunication Network team. The engineer will design, document, configure and troubleshoot the company’s IP backbone, internet platform and SD‑WAN solutions, ensuring reliable connectivity for enterprise customers.

Key responsibilities

• Engineer, document and configure IP platforms including IP backbone, internet and SD‑WAN.
• Design and maintain interconnections to core service platforms.
• Support pre‑sales teams with custom enterprise connectivity solutions.
• Deliver and configure services for tailored enterprise projects.
• Monitor daily service quality, handle alarms and resolve incidents.
• Collaborate with other teams to solve complex network issues.
• Provide remote assistance to field engineers and subcontractors.
• Participate in the 24/7 duty system.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in telecommunications network engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of experience configuring and maintaining service‑provider telecom networks.
• Strong communication skills in French and English; German or Luxembourgish a plus.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• IP/MPLS routing, BGP v4/v6, MP‑BGP, OSPF, IS‑IS, LDP, RSVP.
• Traffic engineering, BNG, multicast routing and switching.
• Security and firewall technologies, IPSec VPN, DDoS mitigation.
• Cisco and Nokia SROS switching/routing platforms.
• DWDM network knowledge.
• Scripting languages for automation.
