Researcher in Intelligent and Sustainable Wireless Networks for 6G

About the role

We are looking for a highly motivated post‑doctoral researcher to join the Distributed and Intelligent Connectivity (DISCO) group at LIST. The role focuses on developing intelligent, energy‑efficient wireless solutions for 6G connectivity in industrial settings, leveraging unlicensed spectrum and AI‑driven techniques.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct advanced research on next‑generation wireless networks, emphasizing high‑performance and reliable communication over unlicensed spectrum.
• Design and evaluate adaptive MAC and network‑layer protocols for shared‑spectrum environments.
• Develop AI‑driven methods for real‑time interference prediction and adaptive network behaviour.
• Explore multi‑technology (multi‑RAT) integration of emerging systems such as Wi‑Fi 6E/7/8 and Ultra‑Wide Band to support ultra‑reliable, low‑latency, massive IoT services.
• Implement energy‑efficient and sustainable networking solutions for Industry 5.0 scenarios.
• Publish research findings in high‑impact journals and conferences and contribute to collaborative projects.
• Support or lead the preparation of new project proposals.
• Facilitate knowledge transfer and demonstrate solutions in real or simulated industrial environments.

Required profile

• PhD in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a closely related field.
• Strong background in wireless communications and networking.
• Experience with AI or machine learning is an advantage.

Required skills

• Knowledge of random‑access protocols (e.g., IEEE 802.11 family).
• Understanding of multi‑radio systems, interference management, and energy‑efficient network design.
• Familiarity with machine‑learning applications in communications, including neural networks and federated learning.
• Experience with network simulation and modelling tools such as ns‑3, OMNeT++, MATLAB, and Python.
• Practical experience in prototyping or test‑bed experimentation is a plus.
