Experienced Legal Counsel – Commercial & Procurement

About the role

The European Stability Mechanism (ESM) seeks an Experienced Legal Counsel to join its Commercial Legal and Procurement team. The role supports the institution’s mandate by ensuring that all commercial contracts and procurement activities comply with ESM policies and EU procurement principles.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts with external service providers and suppliers.
• Provide legal advice on ESM procurement policy, review tender documentation and support the drafting of procurement‑related documents.
• Advise internal business clients on contract interpretation, procurement procedures and related legal matters.
• Apply internal policies and procedures to commercial contracts and procurement processes.
• Conduct legal research, prepare memoranda and stay informed on regulatory developments affecting procurement.
• Collaborate closely with Procurement Officers and other stakeholders across the ESM.
• Handle administrative tasks linked to contract and procurement activities.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in law (or equivalent).
• Qualified to practise law in an EU Member State, EEA country, Switzerland, the UK, the US or another relevant jurisdiction.
• Minimum five years of relevant experience, preferably in an international law firm, corporation or public body.
• Strong understanding of commercial law and business matters; experience with IT and emerging technologies such as AI is a plus.
• Proven ability to work with senior stakeholders and deliver clear, pragmatic advice.
• Fluent English with excellent legal drafting skills.
