Director General – Operations Directorate (OPS)

About the role

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is seeking a Director General for its Operations Directorate at its Luxembourg headquarters. This senior leadership position provides strategic direction and operational oversight for investment and advisory activities across the EU and EFTA countries.

Key responsibilities

• Define, steer and deliver the directorate’s contribution to the EIB Group’s mission and corporate objectives, including an €80 billion lending target and 100 advisory assignments.
• Lead client‑oriented directorates covering public sector, corporates, financial sector, venture debt and innovative financial instruments.
• Ensure high‑quality credit standards, operational excellence, and alignment with EU policy priorities and the Risk Appetite Framework.
• Maintain strong stakeholder relations, country coordination and first‑line risk management.
• Foster a culture of respect, openness, transparency and accountability within the directorate.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior financial or banking leadership, preferably within an international or multilateral institution.
• Proven track record of managing large‑scale investment portfolios and advisory programmes.
• Deep understanding of EU policy objectives, risk management and corporate governance.
• Strong strategic thinking, decision‑making and stakeholder‑engagement capabilities.
