5G Telecom Engineer
LUXUAV · Luxembourg
Description du poste
About the role
LUXUAV is building compact communication platforms for UAV missions and seeks a permanent, hands‑on engineer to lead the design and development of software‑defined 5G NR/LTE nodes on SDR hardware. This technical lead role owns the build from RF front‑end through networking, driving prototypes to field trials.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build, and integrate the software‑defined 5G NR/LTE node on SDR hardware, from the RF front‑end through L1/L2 to an onboard core.
- Own SDR bring‑up and RF integration, including power amplifiers, filtering, antenna chain, TDD timing, and calibration.
- Configure and extend the RAN stack (srsRAN, OpenAirInterface, or commercial equivalent) and integrate the mobile core (5GC/EPC).
- Design and implement networking: IP routing, gateways, backhaul, and mesh‑to‑5G interconnect, ensuring end‑to‑end connectivity and performance.
- Collaborate with the RF/array specialist to integrate phased‑array front‑end at the array‑to‑L1 boundary.
- Stand up bench and hardware‑in‑the‑loop tests, measure and optimise throughput, latency, and coverage, and drive the node from lab to field trials.
Required profile
- Hands‑on industrial experience developing and integrating 4G/5G RAN systems (not research‑only).
- Deep SDR experience with USRP‑class hardware and software‑RAN (srsRAN, OpenAirInterface, or commercial).
- Solid network engineering skills: IP routing, 5GC/EPC, transport and backhaul, with ability to design and debug end‑to‑end.
- Strong C/C++ for real‑time and embedded systems, plus Python for automation and testing.
- Working knowledge of 5G NR/LTE L1/L2 and O‑RAN architecture (Open Fronthaul 7‑2x, O1, FAPI PHY‑MAC API).
- Upper‑intermediate English and a clean criminal record.
- National of a NATO member country or NATO Indo‑Pacific partners (Australia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Ukraine).
Required skills
- SDR hardware (USRP‑class) and software‑RAN (srsRAN, OpenAirInterface)
- RF front‑end integration (PA, filters, antennas, phased‑array)
- IP routing, VPN, SD‑WAN, mesh networking (MANET)
- C/C++ programming, Python scripting
- 5G NR/LTE L1/L2, O‑RAN protocols
- Mobile core integration (5GC/EPC)
