Doctoral researcher – Climate Nexus Convention (Environmental Chemistry)

About the role

The Climate Nexus Convention is a five‑year initiative funded by Luxembourg's Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity. As a doctoral researcher you will join the Environmental Cheminformatics (ECI) group to investigate unknown chemicals and assess their impact on human health and ecosystems in the context of climate change.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute field studies to map chemical substances across Luxembourg.
• Perform laboratory analyses using high‑resolution mass spectrometry for non‑target screening.
• Develop and apply FAIR and open‑science workflows for large‑scale chemical data.
• Collaborate with researchers in the ECI group, the Department of Engineering, and external stakeholders such as the Water Management Authority.
• Interpret results and contribute to policy‑relevant reports and climate‑service enhancements.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in environmental science, engineering, cheminformatics or a closely related field.
• Strong background in environmental chemistry with interest in non‑target high‑resolution mass spectrometry.
• Analytical and problem‑solving abilities, especially for defining case studies aligned with policy discussions.
• Willingness to conduct extensive field and laboratory work and to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
